UNITED RESERVES FALL TO YEOVIL
|
|
Even a Manchester United side containing the likes of Rodrigo Possebon could not prevent a defeat by a Yeovil side. Goals from Rodrigo Possebon and Robbie Brady were negated by a madcap five minute spell early in the second period, during which United shipped three costly goals. Sir Alex Ferguson was watching on from the Man Utd Hospitality Tickets, and would not have been impressed.
However, the most important outcome of the afternoon was the 6,664 attendance for Way, whose playing career was curtailed by an horrific road accident in December 2008.
The 30-year-old provoked a mass outpouring of applause and recognition when he took to the field for the final moments of a game which captivated all present from start to finish.
United made a promising start, but almost fell behind when Dean Bowditch thudded an effort against Conor Devlin's crossbar. Ravel Morrison was thwarted in a one-on-one with Glovers goalkeeper John Sullivan and Joshua King was crowded out by a pack of defenders, before United took the lead eight minutes before the break.

MORE BRAZILIANS AT UNITED?
|
|
Manchester City and Manchester United are locked in a battle over Brazilian playmaker Ganso, according to the Daily Mail.
The 20-year-old is currently at Brazilian side Santos and was a major player for them last season. Considered to have excellent technique, Ganso is capable of using his body well to retain possession but is particularly dangerous creating chances and going forward.
Manchester United officials have reportedly already made contact with Santos. Given that they already boast Brazilian youngsters such as the Da Silva brothers and Rodrigo Possebon, Manchester United will fancy their chances of luring Ganso to Old Trafford.

United chase new Possebons
|
|
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says they're expanding their scouting network in Brazil.
Anderson, Rodrigo Possebon and the Da Silva twins are all on United's books and Ferguson confirmed in a radio interview in the US that more could be on the way.
Ferguson, who retains an interest in bringing Douglas Costa of Gremio to Old Trafford, has revealed that Manchester United have deployed a second scout in Brazil to scour what he considers to be one of the best areas in the world to scout for players

United Chase Possebon's teammate
|
|
The Manchester Evening News claims the 17-year-old Corinthians star has said he expects to join Sir Alex Ferguson's side this summer.
The move for the young defender will anger many in Brazilian football, as yet another bright prospect is snapped up by a European club.
The Manchester Evening News quoted 1970 World Cup winner Carlos Alberto as saying: "It is disgraceful United are allowed to do this to Brazilian football," he said.
"The big teams have the money and can take our best players. It is a big problem in Brazil.
"The clubs cannot keep good young players because they can make much more money in other countries. They should change the law so, at least until the age of 20 or 21, the best players play in Brazil and get experience before moving to Europe.
"Fifa must do something."
Should the deal for Dodo go through, he will join fellow Brazilians Rafael and Fabio da Silva and Rodrigo Possebon at Old Trafford.

Youngsters to play Hull?
|
|
Manchester United's second string could decide the Premier League's relegation battle when they face Hull City on the final day.
Hull dropped into the bottom three following Newcastle's win against Middlesbrough, and travel to Bolton on Saturday before hosting United next Sunday. And the Tigers could find themselves up against inexperienced players such as Federico Macheda and Darron Gibson instead of superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.
A Hull victory at the KC Stadium could keep them in the top flight and cause uproar among the other relegation candidates.
The last game of the league season comes just three days before United play the Champions League final against Barcelona. Alex Ferguson's side could wrap up the Premier League title by this weekend if they claim four points in their matches against Wigan and Arsenal.
If they do, it is inconceivable that Ferguson will pick his strongest side to play Hull on May 24, as he will be eager to rest his stars ahead of the Rome showdown the following Wednesday.
The Scot has shown he is unafraid to choose a weakened team for big games, having selected a virtual reserve side for the FA Cup semi-final against Everton.
Lesser-known players such as Macheda, Gibson, Danny Welbeck and Fabio da Silva held the Toffees to a goalless draw over 120 minutes before going out on penalties.
There is no guarantee that a Hull side with two wins from their last 27 Premier League games would triumph, but Phil Brown would rather take his chances against the second-string.

Possebon learning Italian
|
|
Promising Manchester United midfielder Rodrigo Possebon is ready to turn his back on Brazil to pledge his international future to Italy.
To avoid work permit difficulties, the 20-year-old secured an Italian passport through paternal ancestry before signing for United 15 months ago.
And he is keen to play for the Azzurri after making his debut for the Under 20s in a 5-0 defeat to Germany last week.
The match does not prevent him from playing for the country of his birth, but Possebon said:'I will grab this chance with both hands and give all that I have.
'I decided that Italy was the country that has recognized my work and I don't think I will change my mind.
'I was in Italy for a while to get the passport. The Italian Federation contacted me, asking if I would accept should I be called up, and I said yes.
'It is a way of saying thanks to the country that gave me the opportunity to play in Europe, Manchester. I am studying Italian and eventually I will be speaking it well.'
However, the former Internacional player is in no mood to leave Old Trafford for Serie A after forming a close bond with compatriots Anderson, Rafael and Fabio da Silva, and fellow Portuguese-speaker Cristiano Ronaldo.
'I am very pleased here in Manchester,' said Possebon, who is under contract at United until 2011. 'If you look at the squad, there are many midfielders of high quality.
'I'm looking good, I'm feeling well, and I'm happy. I know it is not easy to get an opportunity, but I will take it in the future.'

New Brazilian at OT
|
|
Manchester United have confirmed that Rodrigo Possebon joined the club in January and that the Brazilian youngster has been handed the number 34 shirt at Old Trafford.
Possebon, described on United's official website as a 'tall, athletic holding midfielder', has made the move to England from Brazilian club Internacional.
The English champions have been linked with a move for the 18-year-old since the summer but have now officially confirmed that Possebon is a United player.
"Sir Alex Ferguson has handed United's number 34 shirt to Brazilian youngster Rodrigo Possebon," read a club statement.
"The 18-year-old midfielder, who completed a transfer from Sport Club Internacional last month, is expected to keep learning his trade in United's reserves, but will now be eligible for senior duty if required."
